Six feet of wall is a height a person can pitch material over all day — no ramp, no machine, no waiting for the operator to come back around. That makes it the right box for work that produces debris steadily and gets loaded by the people doing the work.

Same 20 × 8 footprint as the rock box and the 40. Wall height is the only thing that separates a 30 from a 40, and it is the thing worth choosing on.
Container sizing usually gets explained by job type — this box for remodels, that box for demolition. For the two large sizes that framing is simply wrong. A 30 and a 40 sit on identical footprints, need identical delivery clearance, and take identical material. The only real difference is how high the wall is, and the only question that follows from it is how your material is getting into the box.
At six feet, a person can do it. Sheathing scrap, offcuts, ceiling grid, partition studs, brush — a crew member picks it up and puts it in, and keeps doing that for a shift without it becoming the hardest part of the day. Add two more feet of wall and that stops being true; you need a machine, a chute, or a loading ramp. If your job is hand-loaded, the 30 is the biggest box that stays practical, and choosing it over a 40 is a working decision rather than a compromise.
Every container also has a full-width door at the rear. On a 30 that matters for the awkward pieces — a door slab, a run of casework, anything easier to walk in than lift over. Most crews load over the rail and use the door for the things that will not go that way.
The common thread is duration. These are jobs producing debris every working day for a stretch, where the point of a bigger box is to stop thinking about the container and get on with the build. A 30 on site for the length of a phase beats a smaller box swapped three times.
Ask one question: is a person putting the material in, or is a machine?
Hand-loaded work goes in a 30. Framing crews, interior demolition, roofing, site cleanup at the end of a phase — anywhere the debris arrives in person-sized pieces carried by people. The six-foot wall is the whole reason, and dropping to a smaller box would just mean more swap-outs.
If material is going in off a machine, down a chute, or over the side from a height, look at the 40-yard box instead. Two more feet of wall moves more volume per haul, which means fewer trips for the same material — that is worth having when the job is already running swap-outs, and it costs you nothing when a machine is doing the lifting anyway.
Going the other direction, if the job is bounded rather than continuous, the mid-size 20-yard roll-off is usually enough — that is also where a full house re-roof lands — and a single-room scope or one of the smallest roofs fits a 15-yard box. The full size lineup puts all five next to each other if you are weighing more than two.
What the 30 will not do: carry weight. Concrete, dirt, rock, brick, and asphalt go in a 10-yard rock box, the only container rated to carry that weight. A demolition scope that produces both needs two boxes — the structure in a 30, the slab and footings in a rock box. Say so at booking and both land the same day.
Plan on about 60 feet of straight approach for the truck and 23 feet of overhead clearance. That figure is the same for every container we run, so if you have taken delivery from us before, nothing changes. What is different from the smaller sizes is the box: 20 feet long, so the set spot itself needs to be longer, and a full-size truck rather than the smaller ones that serve the 15 and 20.
Flag the usual constraints ahead of the day — overhead lines, gate widths, low branches, soft or unimproved ground, and any surface worth protecting. Plywood under the rails protects finished concrete and we bring it when you tell us the surface in advance. On a long site with one usable approach, tell us which end you want the door facing; it is a thirty-second conversation at booking and an expensive one afterward.
Load it level with the top rail and no higher. Break down what breaks down and lay long stock flat rather than letting it bridge and hold a pocket of air underneath — on a box this size a bad load can cost you most of a haul's worth of capacity. If you reach level and still have material, call for a swap while the crew is still working.

Roofing lands on this size more often than people expect. A tear-off that also takes the decking off roughly doubles what leaves the building, and cedar shake and metal both want this box rather than the 20 — shake because it will not compact, metal because the panels never lie flat however carefully they are stacked. Wall height, and almost nothing else. Both are 20 feet long and 8 feet wide, both need the same delivery clearance, and both take the same materials. The 30 has 6-foot walls and the 40 has 8-foot walls. That means the 40 holds more per haul, and the 30 is meaningfully easier to load by hand from the ground. Pick on how the material is getting into the box, not on what kind of job it is.

The clearance the truck needs is the same for every size we run, roughly 60 feet of straight approach and 23 feet overhead. What changes is the box itself: a 30 is 20 feet long against the 20-yard container at 14 feet, so the set spot has to be longer. The 30 also goes out on a full-size truck, so if your site is one the smaller trucks were reaching — an alley, a parking garage, a dead-end driveway — a 30 may not get in where a 20 did.
