On a certified project the debris leaving the site is a line item in a submission, not just a container that gets collected. That means somebody has to be able to say where it went and what came out of it — and most haulers cannot, because they never chose the destination with that in mind. We do, and the documentation follows.
Tell us at booking that the project is certified. It changes the routing from the first load, not the last.
This is worth being exact about, because the field is full of vague claims and a GC assembling a submission cannot use a vague one.
We route the load. The container goes to a materials recovery facility rather than straight to disposal. Which facility depends on what is in it, and choosing correctly is the part that decides whether the load is recoverable at all.
The facility weighs, sorts and certifies. The diversion report is issued by them, against your load, on their scales. That is their function and their liability, and it is the reason the document carries weight with a reviewer.
We get that documentation to you. Per load, tied to the job, in a form you can file.
What we do not do is equally worth stating. We do not produce or certify the report — we are not the ones weighing it. We do not guarantee a diversion rate, because it comes off your material rather than off a promise. And we are the hauler in your chain rather than your LEED consultant: how the documentation assembles into an MR credit submission is your project team's call, and we would rather say that than imply a completeness we cannot see from a truck.
The rate is not something we set, but the conditions for a good one are largely decided on site before anything is collected. Three things move it more than the rest.
How mixed the load is. A container of one material is a straightforward recovery. The same volume mixed with everything else on the job is a sorting problem, and sorting problems recover less. Where a site has room for more than one container, separating the obvious streams at source does more for the number than anything downstream.
What is contaminating it. A clean stream stops being one the moment the wrong thing goes in — this is exactly why the 10-yard rock box takes concrete, brick, asphalt and rock and nothing else. That restriction is usually explained as a weight rule, and it is, but it is also what keeps a dense load recoverable as aggregate rather than mixed debris.
Whether it was planned or improvised. A job that decides on its diversion approach at the first delivery does better than one that works it out at the third, simply because the early loads are the ones most likely to be mixed. Tell us the project is certified when you book.

(425) 522-3717Nothing about the fleet changes on a certified project — what changes is how the material is split across it, because separation at source is the single biggest lever on recovery.
The rock box keeps concrete, brick, asphalt and rock as a clean dense stream, which is the easiest material on any job to recover well. The 30-yard roll-off and the 40-yard handle the bulk of structural and demolition debris on commercial scopes, the 40 where a machine or a chute is feeding it and the 30 where crews are loading by hand. The 20-yard container suits interior and tenant improvement work, which is where a great deal of certified Class A activity actually sits. The 15-yard is the one that makes a second stream possible on a site with no room for a second large box — often the difference between separating and not. None, and be wary of anyone who does. The rate comes off the load and it varies with what is in it — a clean load of one material recovers very differently from a mixed one. The facility calculates it and the report states it. What we can do is give you the conditions for a good number rather than promise the number itself.

It is a routing decision rather than a product, so what moves the total is the same as any other job — size, material, how long the container is on site. Sorting on site can change which facility makes sense and that can change the economics in your favour.
